The ILU Name Origin

We believe providing equal “access” to all persons,
which include those who have disabilities.
The “L” in the ILU heading represents the need to
LEARN about the complexities of a diverse field.
Disabilities management is composed of three
divisions on the disabilities continuum. These are:
- Quantifying clinical assessments
- Developing accommodations as directly tied to
the reported disability
- Reviewing policy that guides consistent
decision making
The “U’ in our heading represents the desire to
UNDERSTAND how to maneuver through these
complexities by attending to their meaning and
sequential alignment. Because there are over 270
current federal definitions alone for defining
disabilities and the accommodations that might flow
from them, we recognize that a big knowledge gap
needs to be filled.
We strive towards making our learning and working
environments accessible to all who wish to learn,
work and participate in public activities with their
non-disabled peers.
Why the ILU Team is Different
Typically disabilities consulting firms focus on
one aspect of the above three part disability
puzzle. In part, this because each of these puzzle
pieces are so involved, few professionals have
mastered all of them. Additionally the field of
disabilities studies has few standards as a result
of not having been formalized. For example, there
are almost no doctoral programs in the United States
and the Great Britain that cover the disabilities
policy spectrum.
This means that an organization which works with
persons having disabilities or an individual with
disabilities requesting those services may find that
systems designed to develop accommodations can fall
short of their intended purpose. This is often
because the strict protocols defining disabilities
and their accommodations do not line up with one
another. Our purpose is to help those who come to us
navigate through those issues. |
